Zones
Union Square:
This is also known as the “heart” of Union City. Union Square rests in the middle of the now thriving metropolis. Open green parks, playgrounds, and the central government of all of Union City are housed here. It is also home to the Command center of the Union City Police Department (UCPD) despite all other zones maintaining their own municipal buildings and zone government, the UCPD is centralized to Union Square. All officers are hired through Union Square and then assigned to their zone for their service. This fact does not mean that Union Square is immune to crime however. Several gangs have sprung up in the cities capital district, and despite the best efforts of the UCPD. These gang members have been remarkable elusive and evasive to capture leading to the rumor’s that they are receiving help from a member of the Union City Hall. This makes Union Square a beautiful, albeit not entirely safe, place.
Rorke’s Row:
While Union City was being founded, a newly appointed city councilmen, a man named Kelly Rorke was responsible for gathering and brokering deals between the city and several leading construction companies and generating that action that began Union City. And he was instrumental in the founding of all of the cities zones. It was because of his efforts that the massive construction project that was Union City started with such a strong force. Councilmen Rorke was thanked by the city by naming the newly constructed Southern zone after him.
At this time Rorke’s Row was prosperous, clean, and a shining beacon of what Union City could become. It was less than a year later that councilmen Rorke was tied to illicit and illegal activities. With the construction companies that Rorke brought into Union City also brought in with them drugs, gambling, and prostitution the hub of it all, lay in the aptly named Rorke’s Row. Within a year of it being built, Rorke’s Row had quickly grown to reflect the rampant drug traffic, gang activity, and prostitution that had plagued all districts of Union City at the beginning of the Union Cities construction. UCPD in this district is understaffed, underfunded, and rife with corruption. Rumors are the Councilmen Rorke is still at the heart of everything that goes on in the district.
Diamond Heights:
The Diamond Heights district of Union City is in the northern region of Union City. Many of the city’s population would consider Diamond Heights the ‘retail specialists’ of Union City. Someone looking to spend a hefty amount of credits, or to open a shop where people would be expected to spend said credits, would do well to look here first. The latest in tech, the newest fads in clothing, the most expensive cosmetic or gene surgery are all for the having here. Of course this makes Diamond Heights not only a shopping destination for all the affluent and well off citizens in Union City, it also makes a prime target for individuals looking to exercise the ‘five finger discount’. A more serious concern facing the district is the criminal organization the “Down and Outers.” Though not by any means the largest, or even the most violent gang in Union City, the Down and Outers have proven to be a very difficult problem to solve as their zeal makes them quite formidable.
Neo Salem:
The Neo Salem district occupies the left side of the city. Neo Salem possesses a charm that perhaps is lacking in the other districts, a homey sense of familiarity and family. In a world that is obsessed with the latest piece of technology or the latest gene surgery fad, Neo Salem, by and large, seems downright slow by the standards of the rest of the city. Neo Salem also has something else the rest of Union City is lacking. A foundation in mysticism. Though most individuals of the modern age would consider “Magic” a form of technology or science that isn’t understood or quantified yet. There are circles of affluent people in Neo Salem who know that a few words, spoken over the right mixture, can possess devastating effects, without any help from Sir Isaac, or Mr. Einstein. Magical villains also reside primarily in Neo Salem. Finding it easier to tap into their arcane arts in this district then others.
The Big Atom
In a kind of homage to the fallen “Big Apple” The district so aptly named the Big Atom is on the right most side of the city, and it is home to Union City’s biggest and most advanced technical laboratories in the world. Cutting edge technology, space age advances and designs, all of these things are to be discovered in this district. The district is also home to Union Cities Prison, known as River Correctional. (As in, Up the River) It is also a technological marvel using the advanced technology available to help detain super powered criminals. The Big Atom is also home to the Port of the Union City. Great ocean liners bringing supplies into the city from all over the world.
History
In the year 2020, the invasion occurred. It happened suddenly. All over the globe rifts opened, portals that seemed focused on every major population center in the world. The alien invaders poured out of the portals by the hundreds. Before there could be any organized reaction people began getting abducted and pulled to the other side. The aliens possessed powerful mental abilities, telekinesis, mind control, and psionic attacks. The heroes of the day rose up and battled the Drozonan menace, and for five long years the battle waged on. Cities were leveled, nearly a billion people were abducted in total, and during the final battle, and a collective combination of the world’s heroes, villains, and remaining military forces threw the Drozonan armada back through the portals to the other side and shut the portals down. When the smoke cleared from the last great battle, the world began to rebuild
Union City is the result of a fusion between New York City and Boston. After the final battle with the Drozonan threat, both cities had more or less collapsed. The majority of the population of both cities were either killed during the war or abducted by the aliens. The city began construction in 2025 the same year that the final battle was concluded. Once the threat was deemed over, the global reconstruction program began to rebuild the lost and destroyed cities of the world. It became apparent at the time that the fallen New York was lost, and the influx of survivors from both Boston and New York merged together to build Union City.
The year is Now 2035. Union City is by all accounts a thriving and prosperous one, but there are many threats laying in wait to but the city in danger. A new generation of heroes needs to rise up, and band together to protect the newly founded beacon of hope.
Currently in Union City
Thanks to the Drozonan invasion, and the resulting chaos that occurred during the time of the invasion, the public took on a great interest in the Heroes who were literally beating back the tide every day. With that in mind, Union City actively embraces those who would claim to be a Hero. Technically, being a superhero is a profession without a paycheck. Individuals registering for and passing the requisite exams can be given special license that allow them to operate as a hero within Union City. Individuals operating without a hero's license, even if they are enforcing the law, are considered criminals to law enforcement. The spirit of the law has seen officers of the UCPD on occasion, allowing non-licensed hero's to evade capture. However, the letter of the law dictates that anyone operating as a Hero in Union city 'must' be licensed.
