The Order of the Violet Rose
In days of yore, when the land was spotted with castles and mounted knights jousted for honor, there was the Kingdom of Advanguard. King Leon was a driving force for peace and had rallied several smaller kingdoms under the Advanguard banner without force. The kingdom had reached the height of it's prosperity as all kingdoms do before tragedy strikes. King Leon was murdered, and the entirety of the kingdom was beset upon by an evil warlord and his thralls. Villages and cities burned, free men were enslaved, and Advanguard struggled to find the solution to the growing threat.
The Kings young Daughter, Princess Marabell derived the answer, to bring together the most powerful mystics, and the most skilled knights in all of Advanguard. This Order of warriors would then go on the offensive. Striking at the warlord and drive him from Advenguard. The princess Marabell was unaware however that the Mystics in the order had an agenda of their own. To further boost their powers, they entered into pacts with demons from the various hell realms. The demons gave the mystics power, in exchange for favors. Princess Marabell was victorious and her forces overcame the Warlord, and saved Advanguard. But it could not save itself from the Order.
The mystics continued to bask in the power given to them by their demon benefactors, not realizing the price that they would have to pay. And before they knew it, the devil came for his due. Demons had enthralled the Mystics. The order became corrupted by the demonic influences, and Advanguard was ripped asunder from the inside. Princess Marabell herself was sacrificed on a black altar, only to be possessed by a powerful demon herself.
In the modern night, the Order of the Violet Rose has sprang up in an attempt to rebuild a new Advanguard, an Advanguard built upon the Ashes of union city. The order is still plagued and hounded by demons and their mystic thralls and knight guards. And Princess Marabell herself is still rumored to be seated upon their dark throne.
Gear Heads
The name is something of a misnomer, as their heads aren't actually made of gears. However, this gang in Union City had developed a bit of a reputation due to the large gears that do protrude out of their backs, the grinding of gears, sprockets, and springs. These robotic menaces first popped up shortly after the Droznian war. At first, they appeared to be helping the destroyed remains of New York. They worked tirelessly, clearing away rubble, helping open up passages and routes through the city. People didn't mind the little sprockets until the populace realized that the Gear Heads were stealing every piece of scrap metal they could get their robotic hands on. A utility worker spotted two robots stealing a spool of copper wire off of his truck. And when he went to stop them, the until then peaceful robots turned violent, blasting the worker with powerful electrical shocks that ended up costing the man his life.
The still active hero's of the time took to the streets in force, and met a great deal of resistance from the little constructs. After a short time, the gear heads were tracked to a thought to be abandoned warehouse, which turned out to be home to an assembly line of gear heads, creating more of their kind. All of the chunks of scrap metal and pieces of everything that had been stolen away was being used to increase the number of gear heads. A raid ensued, and the hero's attacked in mass, and the robots defended their homes like hornets protecting the nest.
By the time Union City had been founded and built, it was thought that the Gear Heads were a memory. That is until little robotic gear heads began popping up in Union city. Snatching any loose metal or wiring they could get away with. Hero's know that the gear heads probably have another assembly line somewhere in the city, building more members of their gang. To the grinding of gears, sprockets, and springs.
Droznian
The name of the Alien invaders who laid waste to the planet still brings a collective shudder of fear to the populace. They are the boogeymen of modern times. During the invasion they kidnapped nearly a billion people off of the planet and brought them back through their portals. Using a combination of powerful telepathic and telekinetic abilities, they battled hero's police, and military forces alike. Not to mention the advanced alien technology that was used during the war. Hover sleds, barrier fields, and attack drones were just a few of the devices used by the Droznian's in their war effort. Now that the war has passed however, threats from the invaders have not entirely ceased. In the Ruins of New York and Boston, there have been reports of similar looking portals flickering. There one minute, gone the next. These might just be stories, or these might be the forewarning of dangerous times ahead.
Some fear that a second war is coming. That even now agents of the Droznian empire are already on earth, hiding among the populace. Gathering intelligence, weakening earth's defenses. Softening up the Earth for the return of the Invaders.
Even now in Union City pockets of Droznian aliens still exist in secluded, often cloaked laboratories. Conducting experiments and abducting citizens to currently unknown ends.
